Blogtoberfest: Day 3 Recent Thrifty Finds

I have wanted to rejoin Apron Thrift Girl's Thrift Share Mondays for quite some time and this Blogtoberfest commitment is allowing me to do so. Sharing my thrifting finds is one of the pleasures of blogging and thrifting and I love reading about other peoples finds almost as much as finding my own treasures. With all the travel we experienced this summer, I was unable to do much garage sale shopping and have yet to go to an estate sale. So most of my searching is at Thrift Stores and I visit many of the same ones frequently. The red Pyrex mixing bowl is in pretty good shape and will eventually be handed over to my daughter for her emerging collection of Pyrex Primary. The floral Le Sportsac was found at Value Village and I am sure that I will put it to good use. The lace and trims were found at another Value Village and are most definitely vintage. Most are still on there original cards and were made in England. Part of the thrifting thrill is imagining what I might make with them.

This tin was found at what was likely the last garage sale of the season. I love crinoline girls, silhouettes and the colouration is so autumnal. I wish that I knew how I could get the adhesive tape residue without damaging the paint on the tin. I estimate that it comes from the late 1940's. I also found a dresser scarf, to be shown in a future blog post, with embroidered crinoline girls made by one of the ladies holding the sale. She made it when she was still a girl and was completely unsentimental about selling it at a garage sale and resisted the other lady's suggestion of giving it to a grandchild.

The potato ricer was another find at this sale. I am a sucker for kitchenalia especially anything with red handles but I am running out of good display space in my kitchen. A white, footed milk-glass bowl was another find at the sale.

My favourite thrifting spot has been the Nearly New Shop at the Cathedral. Many of my best clothes and accessories have come from this shop. The shop gets lovely donations from the parish and an upscale consignment shop in the city. The scarf is my second Liberty scarf found in this shop. Liberty is know for pattern and colour and their scarves are highly desirable. I have been meaning to look into two other Church thrift stores in the the city and happened to be in the neighborhood of one the other day where I found the hat stand! For a lady who loves hats, this is a must and has been on my wish list for quite a long time. I can't wait to make a purse with the plastic handles. I intend to use the beaded belt as a purse strap but I think that my daughter would like to take ownership.

Nice thrifty finds! I love the canister. I just love the old graphics. I like your word "kitchenalia". A perfect description! Thanks for visiting Cottage and Creek. I'm using a Le SportSak purse right now that I got at a thrift store! Love 'em!
